Workshop on Green Schools in Cuangar and Dirico

On October 27, 2025, a workshop on Green Schools began in the municipality of Cuangar, Cubango province. This initiative is part of the ADSWAC Project, which aims to strengthen the adaptation and resilience capacity of communities facing the impacts of climate change in the cross-border regions between Angola and Namibia.

The opening ceremony was presided over by His Excellency the Municipal Administrator of Cuangar, Benjamim Dumba João, who, in his speech, emphasized the importance of training and the role of schools in promoting sustainable practices and environmental education for new generations.

At the same time, the municipality of Dirico launched the same training cycle at the 17 de Setembro School Complex, in the Xamavera commune. The opening was led by His Excellency the Communal Administrator, Mr. João Kamenhe, who highlighted the program’s relevance in raising environmental awareness among teachers and students.

The Green Schools Program aims primarily to equip teachers with knowledge on global warming and climate change, addressing its causes, local manifestations, and future trends. It also seeks to mobilize schools (teachers and students) to adopt concrete mitigation and adaptation measures for climate change within their communities.

During the training, participants learn community adaptation and resilience strategies through a combination of theoretical sessions and practical activities. The program encourages collective action within schools and promotes the integration of environmental education into the teaching and learning process.
