Empowering Communities: ADSWAC Project Strengthens Food Security in Kavango West

The Adaptation in Drought-Struck South Western African Communities (ADSWAC) project continues to make a significant impact by equipping communities with essential resources and knowledge. Through its initiatives, ADSWAC fosters sustainable agricultural practices, supporting food security in the Kavango West region.
With the rainy season actually bringing rain, the Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Namibia remains committed to its mission of improving the quality of life in the country. Under the Resilience Building towards Climate Change project, ADSWAC - implemented in both Namibia and Angola—DAPP Namibia has achieved a critical milestone. On February 20, 2025, essential garden tools were distributed at the Kahenge Producer Organisation (PO), marking a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming horticulture cropping season.
This initiative plays a pivotal role in supporting current dryland crop production efforts under Conservation Agriculture (CA) practices, such as potholing, at demonstration plots in the Kavango West region. By equipping local farmers with necessary tools and knowledge, the project enhances resilience against climate change while ensuring sustainable agricultural productivity.
The event saw the presence of esteemed guests, including the Honourable Councillor of Nkurenkuru Constituency, Mr. Fillipus Tenga, and other representatives from the Kavango West Regional Council. Their participation underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in strengthening community resilience and food security.
During the gathering, members of the Kahenge PO were encouraged to remain committed to the project’s objectives and recognise its role in adapting to the adverse effects of climate change. With continued dedication and support, the ADSWAC project stands as a beacon of hope for communities striving towards agricultural sustainability and climate resilience.
