ADPP Angola and DAPP Namibia participated, from March 25 to 28, in the International Desertification Summit 2026, held in Djerba. The event brought together global partners to discuss strategies to combat desertification and strengthen drought resilience, with a focus on vulnerable territories.

The delegation included representatives from Namibia and Angola, namely Sion Shifa from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) and Chair of the ADSWAC Project National Steering Committee, Alfred Besa, Project Director of ADSWAC in Namibia, and Valente Sabino, Regional Coordinator of the project in Angola. The joint participation ensured the integration of experiences and priorities from both countries into international discussions on supporting communities affected by drought and desertification.

The summit was co-organized by CARI, UNCCD, and OSS, bringing together government representatives, international organizations, and implementing entities.

The event also featured the participation of Fernando Binhafa, Executive Director of ADPP Guinea-Bissau, representing the APICA project, accompanied by members of the Government of Guinea-Bissau.

During the working sessions, Alfred Besa highlighted the main constraints faced by implementing entities, with emphasis on operational and procedural limitations that have affected the effective implementation of the projects. Recommendations were also presented aimed at strengthening efficiency and accelerating the execution of activities.

The contributions from participants supported deeper dialogue and strengthened collaboration between executing and implementing entities, promoting a more coordinated and effective response to the challenges of desertification and climate change.
